Why buy from DJ's Jewelry?
We are honest, trustworthy people. We do our best to help you find the best possible jewelry for you. We travel all over the world to find the highest quality jewelry, get the most current industry training, and to provide the best possible prices on the jewelry we sell to you.

Do you have sales and if so how often?
We NEVER have sales. We don’t think it is nice or ethical to charge one person one price and the next person a different price. Instead we lowered our prices to the lowest possible price we can offer and we give it to everyone all day everyday!

Who does the diamond grading at DJ’s Jewelry?
The three members of our staff that are trained in Diamonds.

Why do you travel to Antwerp, Belgium? How do you bring the diamonds back from Antwerp, Belgium?
We travel to Antwerp, Belgium twice a year (once in the spring and once in the fall) to be able to handpick the most beautiful diamonds for our customers. By handsorting them when they are still at the diamond houses, it allows us to find much better prices on diamonds. We have found much larger and much more beautiful diamonds for much smaller price tags. So if you are thinking about getting a diamond or upgrading a diamond, it’s the perfect time.
Because of security reasons we do not actually carry the diamonds back from Antwerp with us. Instead we ship them by Brinks from the diamond houses directly to our store. That way we keep everyone safe.

What is an OVED Diamond?
OVED is a Diamond Enhancement Company, with a very impressive patented process that is almost un-noticeable. OVED Diamonds are Natural Diamonds found in the earth; just like non-OVED diamonds. OVED searches through thousands of Diamonds looking for imperfections in just the right places, then uses their technology and patented enhancement technique to make the imperfections disappear. The imperfections are still a part of the Diamond, so the price is still the same, but the Diamond looks like a much higher Clarity Diamond. Making the newly enhanced Diamond more desirable to the eye and to your wallet, since the OVED Diamond is still the same price as before it was enhanced you now have a much more expensive looking Diamond for less.

Does Enhancing a Diamond (like an OVED Diamond) decrease its value?
No! An Oved Enhanced Diamond is the same price as it was before it was enhanced, it just looks like it should cost more now.

How often should jewelry be inspected, cleaned, and appraised?
We recommend stopping by and cleaning your jewelry as often as you can fit it in, but at a minimum every 3 months. We inspect all jewelry before we clean it. There is no charge for this service, even on merchandise not purchased from us. We recommend appraising your jewelry every three / four years, unless there is a drastic change in jewelry prices (like this last year in 2008). If there are drastic changes, we recommend getting your jewelry reappraised in accordance with the changes. (That way prices don’t jump. If you should lose your jewelry, then the insured price covers the item that was lost.) This service is FREE of charge on all jewelry purchased from DJ's Jewelry.

Can I purchase jewelry directly from you without special ordering from a catalog?
Yes! Definitely! We have a beautiful store full of gorgeous jewelry. Stop by and take a look!

Can I order designer jewelry or something that I’ve seen in a catalog or in newspaper ads?
Yes! We carry most of the large Designer Brands. Most of our inventory consists of large- and small-designer’s brands--we do our best not to be generic. However we do not carry promotional-quality jewelry. We only carry high-quality beautiful jewelry. If we wouldn’t be proud to give it to our friends and family, we don’t want to sell it to you.

What time do you open and close?
We are open for your convenience: 10:00am – 6:30pm Tuesday – Friday
& 10:00am - 5:00pm Saturdays

*We are also available after hours by appointment!*

Do you have Special Holiday Hours?
We are open our regular hours plus the weekend before Valentine’s Day and Christmas as well as the day after Thanksgiving.

How long have you been in business?
We opened July 27, 1987--putting our company in its 22nd year.

Do you make custom designs?
Our motto is “If It’s Jewelry DJ’s Does It”, and it is true. We can make just about anything you can dream up in Gold, Silver, and Platinum. We work with all types of stones. You can draw something you want us to make, bring in pictures, come in and look at our catalogues, or we can help you design something.

Do you send out jewelry / watch repairs?
We can do just about anything with gold, silver, and platinum so we do not send out our repairs or custom orders. Our jewelers are highly skilled and all the work is done on-site. We do send out our watches for repair because we do custom jewelry work and cannot provide the “dust free environment” needed to do watch repairs. Our watch repairman is very trustworthy. We have worked with him for many years and have been very happy with his work.

What does “carat” mean, and how much does one actually weigh?
Carat is the unit used to measure the weight of Diamonds. It is said to have come from a combination of of two words, one “kuara,” a seed of the African Coral tree and “Carob,” a kernel of the Carob bean (both being approximately the same weight). They were both used as the units to measure the weight of Diamonds (among other things) so instead of weighing 1 Carat, it was 1 Carob or 1 Kuara. Eventually the term used became 1 Carat and an agreed-upon approximation was decided on to make a more accurate weight evaluation--1 Carat is approximately 200 milligrams (0.200 grams).

Why does Gold dis-color skin?
The most common reason is because of corrosion of the alloys mixed with the gold. Gold itself does not corrode but the alloys mixed with the Gold to create the different Karats may form chemical reactions under moist or wet conditions. For example when someone sweats, acid is released and can cause the alloys to corrode, especially if acidic foods have been eaten. Fumes or chemicals can increase the reaction if the chemicals are corrosive (Ex: bleach). If this is the case, clean your jewelry (or bring it to us to clean) and wash your hands well. If the reaction to the corresion is extensive, it is a good idea to leave the jewelry off for a few days and give the skin a chance to recover.
The second most common reason is caused by metallic abrasion or by make-up or other cosmetics. It is very common for cosmetic items (like make-up) to have harder elements than jewelry and cause the jewelry to leave metal, usually a black-colored residue (like jewelry polish) on the skin. To prevent this from happening or to lessen the effects, wash your hands and/or the area the jewelry will be touching after applying cosmetics.

What does "karat" mean?
“Karat” when referring to Gold is the purity of the Gold. All Gold starts from the same element (which is pure Gold) and then alloys (other metals like silver, copper, nickel, etc.) are added to give more durability and different color to the Gold. All Gold actually starts out as a yellow putty-like consistency.

What Karats is Gold Available in?
 24Kt gold is pure gold.
 18Kt gold contains 18 parts gold and 6 parts of another metal(s), making it 75% gold.
 14Kt gold contains 14 parts gold and 10 parts of another metal(s), making it 58.3% gold.
 12Kt gold contains 12 parts gold and 12 parts of another metal(s), making it 50% gold.
 10Kt gold contains 10 parts gold and 14 parts another metal(s), making it 41.7% gold (10K gold is the minimum karat designation that can still be called gold in the U.S.).

What Colors is Gold Available in?
Commercially there is Red, Green, White, and Yellow Gold. Metal-smiths are working on Brown / Chocolate, Blue, and Black Gold that have not yet been perfected for jewelry.

“Traditionally these are the mixtures for the different colors of Gold, but with all the exotic metals the jewelry industry is learning to work with, these mixtures will almost definitely change!”

What is Pink/ Rose / Red Gold?
They are all different names for the same gold, which is usually a mixture of Gold, Silver and Copper; with more Copper than Silver. Depending on the shade of the red, jewelers refer to it as Pink, Rose, or Red.

What is Green Gold?
Green gold is usually a mixture of Gold and Silver. Because of this it is a softer mixture then the other colors of gold.

What is White Gold?
White Gold is usually a mixture of Gold, Nickel, Silver, and Zinc.

Why does White Gold sometimes turn or appear yellow?
Pure Gold is Yellow, so all Gold Starts out as Yellow and then metal-smiths add other alloys to make it harder and different colors. So, some mixtures that make White Gold when they gets worn the yellow shows through more. This can be easily fixed by having the White Gold professionally polished. __This is not the same as having your Gold Plated White! Gold must be White Gold for this to be true!

Is Platinum the Best Metal?
Maybe for you! Platinum is another choice, but not necessarily better or worse than any of the other choices out there. Platinum does where a lot slower than gold; if you were to rub both Platinum and Gold on Sand Paper the Platinum would last a lot longer, but it doesn’t stay shinny. It is also a “gummy” metal, so if you smash it, or scratch it, the metal is harder to put back in place, or into the same shape. So it is really a personal preference!

What is Palladium?
Palladium is one of the exotic new Metals; it is in the Platinum family. It is most commonly mixed with other alloys to create 14KT Palladium which is 58% Palladium.

What are the Birthstones for the different months?

Do you take Trade-Ins?
Yes! In fact we recommend it to our customers! It makes that 2 Carat Diamond much more affordable when you can trade your 1 Carat Diamond towards it. The dollar amount of the Trade-In will depend on the quality of the jewelry you are trading-in (Clarity and Color of the Gem Stones, Karat of the gold, etc.). We do have to see and test the Jewelry before we can give any kind of a Trade-In price. Also since we are not a jewelry box, we do not trade across, the total you are trading-in cannot be more than ½ the price of what you are trading towards. We also buy Jewelry for Scrap. Stop by today and see about trading towards your dream jewelry!

Do you Buy Jewelry?
We buy large amounts Gold, Platinum (weighing 1 ounce or more), and Some Diamonds (depending on the quality) for scrap. Once they are purchased we send them to a scrap house, so they are not available for repurchase. In order to sell an item to us you need to be 18 years of age and have a valid ID / Driver’s License. If we do not purchase what you are attempting to sell, there is a $1.00 fee for each metal / stone we test.
